French Toast

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 C milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp orange zest
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 6 slices bread

Instructions

  1. Whisk together everything but the bread in a bowl about the size of a slice of bread. Note: enriched dough breads (like brioche, babka, challah or any made with more egg, butter, milk or sugar) make for better french toast. Also slices should be about 3/4 - 1" thick. If it's a bit stale that's fantastic.
  2. Heat a skillet to medium heat then add a light coat of butter or cooking spray to the pan.
  3. Dip as many slices in the egg mixture as will fit in the pan, then place them in the pan. Flip in about 2 minutes, or until golden brown. Repeat for remaining slices.
  4. Top with butter, syrup and/or powdered sugar. If you want to get fancy, you can roast bananas in maple syrup for a topping.
