Combine milk, oats, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly for 2 minutes, then reduce heat to medium low for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 2 more minutes.
Add on 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed and fruit if desired. If adding frozen fruit, simply add it at the beginning and let it cook with oatmeal.
