Country Gravy

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C butter (unsalted)
  • 3/4 C all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 4 C milk
  • 1/2 C sausage or bacon pieces (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp bacon grease (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Whisk in the flour until smooth. Cook and stir until browned, about 5 - 10 minutes. Slowly stir in milk and continue cooking and stirring until thickened. If the gravy becomes too thick, you may thin it with a little more milk. Taste, and season with salt and pepper as desired.
