In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Cut in cold butter and shortening. In a separate bowl, combine cream with beaten egg then add to dry ingredients and stir in fruit.
Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Roll dough with a rolling pin and use a cookie cutter or drinking glass to cut into biscuit size rounds.
Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 15 minutes or until brown. Place on cooling rack to cool slightly before serving.
